Rules for establishments

(restaurants and bars, hotels and accommodation, stores, cinemas, fitness and wellness etc.)

The Decree concerning limits for establishments from 17 May 2021 can be found here. The measures are based on a regional system and depend on the degree of warning according to the COVID Automaton.

In the event of conflict, exclusively the wording of the applicable Decree published in the Journal of the Government of the Slovak Republic shall apply. In the event when a negative result of test for COVID-19 is required for entry into an stablishment, it can be substituted by a confirmation of vaccination (at least 14 days from vaccination with a second dose of a mRNA vaccine or 4 weeks from vaccination with the first dose of a vector vaccine or 14 days after the first dose of any vaccine if the person was vaccinated within 180 days from recovery from COVID-19) or by a confirmation of recovery no older than 180 days. This duty does not apply to children up to an age of 10 years.

General capacity limits for establishments:

  • Unless otherwise stipulated, a limit of one person per 15 square metres applies to establishments. This limit does not include children up to an age of 10 years accompanied by an adult.
  • If the sales space devoted to customers is smaller than 15 m2, maximum one customer may be present in the establishment.

Department stores:

  • The duty to measure temperature of those entering the store is cancelled in all districts. A negative test is not necessary to enter, either.
  • The ban on consumption of meals and beverages inside department stores remains in existence. This does not apply to mass catering facilities in department stores, where conditions valid for the
    establishments of mass catering facilities are followed.
  • Kids’ corners and sitting areas may be open in the districts at the Degree of Monitoring or Degree of Alert I (green, yellow).
  • No capacity limits apply to the Degree of Monitoring or Degree of Alert I (green, yellow).

Human body care facilities:

  • the time schedule of the establishment must be adjusted so that there is time to clean and disinfect the workplace between individual customers; disinfection must be carried out after every customer, using a disinfectant with virucidal activity,
  • the sanitary facilities of the establishment must be equipped with liquid soap and paper towels.
  • Establishments can be entered without test.

Artificial swimming pools:

  • The permitted capacity depends on the colour of the district:
    • Degree of Warning III (purple): 6 customers
    • Degrees of Warning I and II (pink, red): 10 customers
    • Degree of Alert II (orange): 30 % of establishment capacity
    • Degree of Alert I (yellow): 50 % of establishment capacity
    • Degree of Monitoring (green): without limits.
  • Conditions of trainings of sports clubs registered under sports unions are specified in the Decree separately.

Cableways and drag lifts:

  • The permitted capacity of cabin cable cars depends on the colour of the district. Their operation is not permitted at Degrees of Warning III and IV (purple, black).
    • Degrees of Warning I and II (pink, red): cabins with a capacity of up to 10 people – only members of one household; with a capacity of over 10 people max. 25 % of capacity or members of one household
    • Degree of Alert II (orange): cabins with a capacity of up to 10 people – only members of one household; with a capacity of over 10 people max. 50 % of capacity or members of one household
    • The Degree of Monitoring and Degree of Alert I (yellow, green): no capacity limits.

Hotel and accommodation services:

  • A maximum capacity per one room is specified only for Degrees of Warning I to III (pink, red, purple) – maximum two adults or members of one household.
  • Catering and wellness services in hotels are operated in compliance with the conditions for other catering and wellness services.

Mass catering facilities:

  • In the districts at Degrees of Warning I to III (pink, red, purple), it is prohibited to consume meals and beverages indoors, hygienic measures must be observed.
  • Consumption indoors will be possible at Degrees of Alert I and II (yellow, orange) with capacity limits:
    • At Degree of Alert II (orange): max. four people or members of one household at table.
    • At Degree of Alert I (yellow): max. six people or members of one household at table.
  • At the Degree of Monitoring (green), no capacity limits apply.
  • Entry is not subject to submission of a negative COVID-19 test result.

Fitness centres:

  • The capacity is specified depending on individual degrees of the COVID Automaton. Operators may choose between a maximum fixed number of customers and a limit based on the area in square metres:
    • in districts at Degree of Warning II and III (red, purple): 10 customers or one customer per 25 m2,
    • in districts at Degree of Warning I (pink): 15 customers or one customer per 25 m2,
    • in districts at Degree of Alert II (orange): 20 customers or one customer per 15 m2,
    • in districts at Degree of Alert I (yellow): 30 customers or one customer per 15 m2,
    • in districts at the Degree of Monitoring (green): 50 customers or one customer per 15 m2.

Museums, galleries, exhibition halls:

  • Only individual tours are permitted at Degrees of Warning II and III (red, purple).
  • In other districts, group tours are permitted; maximum numbers of people in groups are determined depending on the colour of the district:
    • at Degree of Warning I (pink): max. 10 people
    • at Degree of Alert II (orange): max. 15 people
    • at Degree of Alert I (yellow): max. 30 people
    • at the Degree of Monitoring (green): without capacity limits

Theatre, movie and other cultural establishments:

  • They remain prohibited at Degree of Warning III (purple).
  • Movie events indoors are permitted in other districts.
  • Mass events for standing audience are also permitted in orange and better districts.
  • Various capacity limits and the way of seating are specified for individual colours of districts:
    • at Degree of Warning II (red): max. 50 % of capacity but maximum 200 people outdoors and 150 people indoors
    • at Degree of Warning I (pink): max. 50 % of capacity but maximum 500 people outdoors and 250 people indoors
    • at Degree of Alert II (orange): for seated areas, max. 50 % of capacity but maximum 500 people outdoors and 250 people indoors, for standing areas, max. 50 people indoors or 100 people outdoors
    • at Degree of Alert I (yellow): for seated areas indoors, max. 50 % of capacity but maximum 250 people, for seated areas outdoors maximum 75 % of capacity but maximum 500 people; for standing areas max. 100 people indoors and 250 people outdoors.
    • at the Degree of Monitoring (green): maximum 500 people indoors, maximum 1000 people outdoors.
  • Organisation of events for school children or school groups will be permitted in orange and better districts.
  • Consumption of meals and beverages will be permitted in pink and red districts only outdoors, it will be permitted in better districts indoors only for max. four people or people from a common household (orange districts) or max. six people or people from a common household (yellow districts).

Wellness, waterparks, spa:

  • In all districts, a negative Ag test no older than 24 hours, RtPCR/LAMP test no older than 72 hours is required to enter internal services of waterparks; children up to an age of 10 years do not need it.
  • Wellness, waterparks and spas may be open at Degree of Warning I and in better districts (pink, orange, yellow, green). Capacity limits:
    • at Degree of Warning I (pink): one person per 15 m2, maximum 10 people
    • at Degree of Alert II (orange): maximum 30 % of sector capacity or maximum 500 customers
    • at Degree of Alert I (yellow): maximum 50 % of sector capacity or maximum 500 customers
    • at the Degree of Monitoring (green): maximum 50 % of sector capacity or maximum 1000 customers
  • Spas on the basis of health indication are open in all districts.

Taxi service:

  • Limits are in force in all districts except for green ones.Limits are in force in all districts except for green ones.
  • Maximum two passengers may sit in one row.
  • Disinfection is carried out after every customer at Degrees of Warning
    I to III (pink, red, purple).

Educational courses and driving schools:

  • A capacity limit of one person per 15 m2 applies to them; if the area of the establishment devoted to customers does not reach 150 m2, maximum 10 participants may be present in the establishment.
